After the sale of the company to Baldwin in the late '60s, many Gretsch guitars underwent transformations to varying degrees. The Bladwin era saw the company move towards Gretsch attempting to modernise Gretsch instruments and ultimately make them more popular for players of the time. This 1976 Gretsch RocJet is a great example of this period, with a slight twist on the classic DuoJet styling, and a move towards a more contemporary tone. The RocJet featured a slightly redesigned body shape, reverting to the single cut Les Paul style shape of the original Duo Jet guitars. The body is fitted with a set of Super Iron pickups that have a more powerful, typical humbucker tone than is associated with earlier Gretsch guitars, along with a simplified switching system with a Les Paul style control layout and master volume. The neck features a slim 'D' profile and the Gretsch signature hump block pearl inlays, along with a slightly larger headstock design.
