1976 Fender Starcaster

The Fender Starcaster was, along with the Coronado, an attempt by Fender to enter the semi-hollowbody electric guitar market which had been dominated by Gibson from the late 1950's onwards. Designed by Gene Fields, who worked alongside Roger Rossmeisl in the Fender R&D department, the Starcaster featured a more futuristic design than the Coronado, incorporating an offset body and unique german carve headstock design. Both guitars feature styles and sounds that were not typically associated with the company, and would go on to initially fall slightly flat with players at the time. The Starcaster, like some other Fender models that did not immediately prove popular, would go on to garner somewhat of a cult status over the following decades, and is now a sought after, oddball rarity with a charm all of its own. This 1976 Fender Starcaster is by far the best example we have seen, in stunning, all original condition.

This 1976 Starcaster is an exceptional sounding instrument with a undeniably unique look. Constructed from a highly figured Maple top, back and sides, this guitar is finished in the less common natural finish. The hardware and electronics are original including the CuNiFe magnet Wide Range Humbucker pickups, dating to the middle of '76. These pickups have become especially revered in recent years, with an open, articulate tone with more clarity than you would expect from a standard hum bucker pickup. The neck is a typically comfortable mid '70s 'C' shape, with the pocket showing a 1976 date stamp. The tuners, pick guard, bridge and knobs are original and correct. 

This guitar is in very good cosmetic condition, with only minor evidence of play wear and buckle rash to the rear of the body.
