1964 Epiphone Texan

Over the years, Epiphone guitars of the 1960's have developed a folklore of their own. Built in the same factory as their Gibson equivalent models, they share many features with these guitars, although subtle design changes and undeniably catchier model names such as 'Cortez' & 'Frontier' have give them a cult following of their own outside of their Gibson connection.

This wonderful 1964 Epiphone Texan is a fantastic example of a mid '60s Gibson made Epiphone acoustic. The Texan was the Epiphone branded version of Gibsons J-45 acoustic flat top, round shoulder dreadnought model. The Texan features a Spruce top with Mahogany back and sides, X braced construction, with an open, balanced tone with plenty of clarity. This particular example is extremely resonant with a crystal clear top end and tight bass response, making it without doubt the best example of a Texan we have played. This particular example also features the wider nut width found on models from ‘64, as opposed to the typically skinnier neck found on the majority of Epiphone acoustics.  

The Texan has been used most notably by players like Paul McCartney and Graham Nash over the years, with its shaded edge style cherry sunburst finish and parallelogram fretboard inlays setting it apart from its Gibson counterpart. This guitar is in original condition, with the original three on a plate tuners, belly up bridge and Epiphone 'Slashed C' logo pickguard. This guitar also includes its original case.

This guitar is in very good condition, with only minor signs of play wear to the finish, and has been given a full service & appraisal by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop. This guitar also includes a 3 year warranty.
