1923 Gibson MB-4

The Gibson Mandolin Banjo was one of the more unique folk instruments produced by Gibson at the start of the 20th century, combining the design of the classic 'Mastertone' series of banjos with a traditional mandolin orientation. This 1923 Gibson MB-4 is a fantastic example of a Lloyd Loar era Gibson instrument in excellent condition.

The banjo body is comprised of a maple rim with 20 hook tension hoop and a 9" banjo head, giving a sweet sound with plenty of projection for a smaller instrument. The MB-4 features the trapdoor style body, again adding to its resonance, and finished in a beautiful sunburst that is still extremely vibrant. The maple neck features a rosewood fretboard and pearl dot inlays, with an overall scale of 14". The MB-4 also features the pearl inlaid "the Gibson" headstock logo, 'moccasin' style headstock with four on a side chrome plate tuners, and elevated ivoroid pick guard. Also included is the original case.

This 1923 Gibson MB-4 is in excellent condition for an instrument that is almost 100 years old, showing only minor signs of play wear and patina to the finish on the headstock, rear of the neck and back of the body. The instrument has been given a full service by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 3 year warranty.
